UNIT 1

MY FIRST VIDEO EDIT IN LEVEL 3

I've done my first video editing for this year on Premiere Pro. It was a pretty good experience but I have done video editing before on level 2 media anyway, so therefore it wasn't a new experience for me. But, I really enjoy editing videos on premier pro because it's quite easy and you get lots of different effects to choose from to use it in your videos. The video that I've edited was a short video of people surfing on the sea at summer time. We had to use the same video and the same audio as a whole class. So, I've used little cross section cuts // at the beginning and at the end of my video when editing, as this helps the image to fade in with the audio. I would like to carry on editing videos on premier pro and improve my editing skills to create better outcomes. I could not upload the video that I've edited on here because of the media too heavy for this webpage. Therefore I have uploaded the video to my channel on YouTube. Here is the link to the video that I have edited...

MID KENT COLLEGE ADVERTISEMENT VIDEO

I've made a new video for the advertisement of the Mid Kent College Maidstone. We shoot the video with my group which had 4 people in it. I've taken most of the videos myself as I was the one who was carrying the camera. As a group, we thought it would be a good idea to show the entrance, the cafes, the canteen, the toilets and the gardens of the college to show how the college looks like in the inside. We didn't really have enough time to shoot the videos and edit it, therefore I had to hurry up a little bit while bringing the videos together for editing. Therefore I think the video that I have made is not as good as I want to be. However, I want to improve my editing skills throughout these two years of media studying which I think will be very useful for me in the future because I want to have a career that's media related. Again, I've tried to upload the video on here but I couldn't succeed as the content of the video was too heavy for my page. Therefore I've uploaded my advertisement video on YouTube so that I can share it on here by just giving the link. Here is the YouTube link to my video...

MASH-UP UNIT 1 TASK 1

Task: You will create a re-imagination of a film trailer in which you will need to change the genre of the film e.g. turning Forest Gump into a horror. The research will need to be shown and analyzed for how various film trailers across genres have been created. You will showcase your ability to edit, create shot lists and log source content. Evaluate your final product.

CARBON COPY UNIT 1 TASK 2

Task: You will need to create a shot-for-shot copy of a 1-minute clip of any film sequence that has at list 10 cuts. This will include a shortlist of 3 sequences and then analyzing your choice. Evaluate your final product.

Photography- Print out the photos to ensure direct (3 photos) copy.

In this project, I will be choosing 3 photographs for carbon copying. I will try my best to make the images look the same by using the correct equipment, correct effects, and the correct perspective. Because, I have learned that in carbon copying these factors are very important, especially the perspective. Therefore I will try to pay attention to these factors while I'm taking the photographs.

When it comes to the photographs that I will be choosing well, I want to choose photographs that remind me of winter or autumn times. This is because I think I become more creative and more productive in these seasons.  Also, they are the best times of the year for me.

Here are the 3 of the photographs that I will be using for "carbon copy" and why I choose to use them.

One of the photographs I will use in the carbon copy project is this photo

(pine cone). The reason for this photo is that the photograph reminds me of autumn and winter which are my best seasons of the year. Autumn and winter months are more interesting to me than in summer and spring times because I think these seasons are more inspiring.  For example, if I want to make a painting or write a book, I definitely prefer to do it in the autumn or winter months. It is also related to the fact that this project coincides with the autumn season. So, for that reason being, I thought it would interesting to choose a photograph that reminds me of the fall season.

I have chosen to use this photograph for my carbon copy because I thought it would look interesting to use a cosy picture which reflects the things that I like doing during my spare time. Yes, I like drinking tea or coffee when I read. I like doing this often in autumn and winter because during the summer I find more practical stuff to do like going out, swimming and going holiday.  However, during the fall season and the winter times I'd like to do drawing, painting, reading, watching interesting movies and documentaries. Therefore I thought this picture would be a good way to reflect part of my life style. Additionally, this photograph also reminds me of the cold seasons.

This is one of the photographs that I have chosen to use in my carbon copy project. Just like the other photographs I have chosen, this photo also reminds me of the fall season and the cold times of the year. However, this photo gives more information about the current time frame where the photograph was taken.  what I'm trying to say is not what time the photograph was taken, but which scene and atmosphere the photo reflects. For example; in many selfies or photographs might not give us enough clue to understand the time of the year when that photo was taken. However, the photo that I have chosen to use is giving us enough information and enough clue about the time frame. I think this is very important when it comes to take photographs because, I think it is more interesting when the time is reflected in the photos. This is the reason why I have chosen to use this photograph.

Analysis of The Photographs

Here are the photos that I carbon copied:

This is the first photograph that I have taken (copy of the photograph number 1). I have done my best to take this photograph correctly. However, I have to admit that when I bring two of the photographs together, I can see that the effects are bit different from each other and also the perspective is not as good as I want it to be. The lighting is also a bit on the photo that I have taken is surely a bit too much than the lighting in the original photo. Especially the lighting in the background is overwhelmingly too much and disturbing. Also in the photograph that I have taken the cone at the front looks closer than the cone in the original photo. However, I think with this photo, I could have done more practice on it. However, it was not very easy to find the ones that were correctly shaped for my project. I had to look around for a long while to find the correctly shaped cones that I can use in my photograph.

If I had one more chance to take the photograph once again, I would of try to use less lighting and use the perspective more correctly to reflect the exact atmosphere that the photograph gives as in the original photo. Additionally, I think the cones at the back look more obvious and they seem to stand out more than in the original photo and I think this is another detail that I had to pay attention to. However, I think both of the photos still look similar even though they're not exactly the same.

This is the photograph number two. when I was trying to take this photograph, I had lots of problem and difficulty with the lighting and the perspective. The best lighting that I could do was this kind of lighting as you see it on the picture. I have tried my best to get the correct lighting, for example; I have turned off all the lights in the room except from a little lighting at the background however, I did not work very well. Therefore, I have turned the lights back on and took the photo like that, the results came out better. But, this time I had more lighting in the picture and I had to reduce this lighting by doing some photo shop and play with the effects of the photograph. As you see it below this what came out.

The perspective! Well, this was another problem I had while trying to take the photograph. I have tried so hard to get the correct perspective. When you first look at the original photo, you might think that it's probably really easy to take the photograph, but no, it's not how it is. I took many photographs to be able to catch the correct perspective and this was the best one that I could use. I have struggled a lot while taking this photo, but if I had another chance to take the photograph again, I would probably try my very best for the lighting and the effects of the photograph.

This is the photograph number 3. I think this photograph is my best out of all the three photographs that I have taken. However, again I think there is too much lighting in this photograph as well. The reason why there is so much lighting is the fact that I have tried to get the sunshine hit the leaves for them to look more orangey color. But, then I realized that it wasn't a very good idea. Well, it was but it caused too much lighting on my photograph which is not what I really wanted. Another thing that's gone wrong with this photograph was again the perspective. I think the book seems to be a bit close and it stands out more than in the original photo. Therefore I think carbon copying is one of the hardest things when it comes to photography. This is because, the photographer does not have the freedom to use what effects, perspectives and the lighting they want in their photograph.

Well, even though my photograph is not exactly the same, I think it still reminds me and looks very similar to the original photograph. As I said it before, this is my best photograph in this project because it reminds me of the best season of the year which is autumn. It looks very romantic and authentic with all the orange and yellow colored leaves surrounding the dry pages of that old looking book. Anyways, again if I had one more chance to take this photograph once again, I will try my very best to use less lighting and use the correct perspective just like in the other photographs that I have taken for this project.

 EVALUATION

This unit was a very interesting unit for me. I really enjoyed doing this unit because it gave me the chance to find out if I have the talent to make a copy of a real image. Well, to be honest, I'm not as happy as I wanted to be and this is because my lighting and the position of the photographs are not as good as I wanted them to be. I actually thought that it is quite easy to choose an image and carbon copy it in the same way. However, it was not as easy as I imagined. My aim was to catch the exact positions, lighting and the effect of the original image in my photograph but I've realized that it was not easy to achieve this. I have tried many different ways to make my image look exactly the same as the original image. Well, the outcome, in my opinion, it not very bad but, it's still doesn't match with my expectations.

Before I started to plan for my unit, I had few ideas in my head that I thought would be quite useful for this project. For example; my first idea was to use roses and different flowers inside a book. I have searched up for that kind of images. However, I had to change my mind on that because at that time of the year (autumn) it wouldn't be as easy to find the flowers that I wanted. Plus, I had to dry out the flowers as well so that I can create a vintage look in my image which would have made me very happy because I love vintage stuff and I would love to reflect this side of me in my work as well at some point. However, I had to change my mind and concentrate on something that was more doable for me at that time. So, I thought that I had to use this season correctly and make the most of it. What I did is that I've started searching up for images that contain books and the effect of the autumn in it which I think was the right thing to do at that point.

As we can see in the images that I have chosen, I have used the book 2 times and I have also used nature 2 times as well. As said it before the season we were at that time was autumn. What I did is I've used some yellow leaves that have fallen from the trees on a green grass with a book in the image. I have also used pines that have fallen from the pine trees to reflect the effect of the season we were in on my work. To be honest I wasn't quite sure if I should use the images that I have chosen for this carbon copy project. But, at that time I thought it was the best decision to make. Actually, I really wanted to challenge myself in this unit but I didn't want to take risks as this was the first time that I'm trying this kind of project.

My first image is a close up of a pine in black and white effect. When I saw this image on the internet, I was really amazed by the atmosphere and effect of it. I thought that this image was matchable with my autumn season ideas to reflect on my work. It's a dried pine that has fallen from a pine tree, standing out in the image. So what I did is that I went out to college garden to look for pines that about the same size and shape to use it in my project. It wasn't really hard to find the pines that I needed, but I must admit that it was quite hard to catch the same perspective, position, and effect on the image. I had to lay on the floor outside to be able to catch the position that I needed. Even though it doesn't look exactly the same, I think it still reminds the original image that I have taken from Google. However, there are few things that I could have done differently to achieve better results. For example; I could have put the image on photoshop cc to create the exact effect that I wanted. Unfortunately, what I did is that I've downloaded the image on my phone and changed the effects on my iPhone. So, I'm thinking that if I did use the photoshop cc, I could have achieved better results.

My second image is a book and a cup of tea or coffee next to each other creating a very warm atmosphere with its effects, position, and lighting.  I've also found this image on the internet. I thought that it would be a good idea to find a kind of picture that reflects the atmosphere of a warm tea or coffee and an old book next to each other. I had to take this photograph at home because there is no chance of me finding a cup like that at school, plus I didn't think that I'll be able to catch the correct lighting if I took this photo in college. So, I went home and took a book from the shelf, made black tea in a little cup and positioned the object in the way that it was shown in the original image. I must admit that this picture was even harder to take than my first image. I have taken around 30 images to be able to catch the correct perspective and position. After I have ta\ken so many photos I have chosen the best one in my eyes and changed it' effects to make it matchable with the original image. Even though it doesn't look exactly the same with the original image, it still reminds the original photo in my opinion. But, I think it would have been better if I used a dark room to take the photo because my image is a bit lighter and clear than the original photo.

My third photo is an image of a book on green grass that has been dominated by the fallen yellow leaves from the trees in Autumn. I have also found this mage on Google. I was quite happy to find this image on the internet because it really matches with the ideas that I had on my mind. I had a good chance to reflect the atmosphere of the season on my work. What I did for this image is that I have bought a book from home and went outside in the college's garden with a camera to take the photo. I must say that just like the other images, it wasn't really easy to catch the position and the lighting that I wanted. Another thing that was making it hard was the fact that the weather was quite windy that day which was blowing the pages of my book. this made it harder to take the photo that I wanted. So, I must say that I'm not very happy with the outcome with this photo. I don't blame everything on the wind but I think it would have been better if it wasn't windy that day. Plus the sun was out as well which gave a lot of lighting in the image.

After all, I have really enjoyed doing this work, at least I had the chance to give it a try and learn about the do's and don't when it comes to carbon copying. I'm okay with the outcome, but it could have been better if I had more experience in carbon copying.
